- * Lead the infection prevention nursing team including provision of clinical leadership / mentorship and supervision; education / training and agreement of individual and departmental needs and recruitment. Ensuring appraisal and performance review of all team members.
* Develop infection prevention team objectives and lead team / co-ordinate activities to achieve objectives
* Act as an expert resource and advisor at a strategic level to all grades of staff, patients and the public.
* Lead the strategic planning and development of professional practice for the service in collaboration with the DIPC.
* Lead on the production of an annual Infection Prevention (IP) Programme and work plan in collaboration with the DIPC to communicate the activities required for the infection prevention team and the Divisions reflecting statutory and mandatory guidance and national and locally agreed priorities and targets to achieve a reduction in Health Care Associated Infection (HCAI).
* Produce infection prevention reports for presentation to the Infection Prevention, Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance Committees.
* Identify infection control risks and implement strategies to reduce those risks.
* Lead the management of outbreaks/serious untoward incidents related to infection working in collaboration with the Infection Control Doctor (ICD) and DIPC.
* Lead the production and implementation of infection prevention and control policies/guidance for Trust staff.
* Lead the development of surveillance programmes within the Trust ensuring surveillance data informs practice.
* Lead the implementation of Department of Health initiatives in collaboration with the DIPC.
* Be a key member of the Trust's Infection Prevention Committee and the Decontamination, Water Safety and Ventilation Safety groups.
* Provide expert advice in relation to the prevention and control of infection in the event of emergency situations where business continuity is required.
* Critically appraise and evaluate current infection prevention practices, providing information to the infection prevention team on recent advances in infection control.
* Work closely with Risk Management, Patient safety and clinical Governance Leads to identify both actual and potential risks, and where the development of clinical guidelines could improve the quality of care provided.
* Act as a role model and change agent to influence the adoption of evidenced based/best practice.
* Responsible as line manager with on-going management of the infection prevention nursing team.
* To be aware of, and contribute to, Clinical Governance issues relating to infection prevention across the organisation.
* Manage the budget for the infection prevention service.
* Network with infection prevention colleagues locally and nationally, representing the Trust at professional meetings, conferences and in publications.
* Is co-opted to attend various committees in the Trust and other contracted agencies according to requirements.
